Two Very Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Based on the symptoms list on your website, I suspect that I have hypothyroidism and tired adrenals, but this hasn’t been confirmed. Do you only work with people who have been diagnosed or do you also work with people who suspect that thyroid and adrenal fatigue is an issue?

A: Yes. Both. Even if you haven’t been diagnosed, I can promise you that if you engage in my program, you’ll feel better, reduce your brain fog, and gain more energy.

When it comes to thyroid testing, most doctors only test for TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone, nicknamed thyroid stimulating hooey). This is a great disservice to patients, as TSH only tells you how your pituitary gland is talking to the thyroid; it tells you nothing of overall thyroid function. Most conventional doctors also don’t understand the crosstalk between the adrenals and thyroid.

I can give you the full list of tests to ask for and resources for finding a functional medicine doctor who gets it. Trying to find an allopathic doctor who will not only run the full panel of labs but who also knows how to interpret the labs and treat accordingly is a bit like searching for a needle in a haystack, unless you know where to turn. I can help.

Pharmaceuticals are not my bailiwick. I know quite a bit about how thyroid drugs work, and I’ll certainly share what I know, but I don’t promote drugs, diagnose illness, cure any disease, or recommend any changes in anyone’s prescribed medications.

Regardless of whether someone is on thyroid drugs or not, dietary and lifestyle changes are critical in becoming truly well.

Q: I know that nutrition for thyroid and adrenal issues is the main focus of your practice, but what if I want to [insert goal here]? Examples: Learn how to live gluten-free? Get off the sugar and processed junk? Learn how to balance my meals? Stop grazing after dinner? Investigate food sensitivities? Alleviate the 3pm slump? Get off the blood sugar roller coaster? Learn what foods fire my metabolism? You get the idea.

A: Yep, I can help. My dirty secrets: I used to be a processed food junkie, I grazed after dinner (and after breakfast and lunch), and I used to crawl under my desk for a 3pm nap. Years ago, I learned how to manage my blood sugar so that I wouldn’t go nutso and alienate my friends. And I’m 100% gluten free, so I can give you the scoop on how to do it successfully.
