Last Two Weeks' Roundup

I try to get these published every week. I swear, I do. :)

How Excess Sugar Affects Your Body (short video)

“Be human. Cut yourself a little slack now and then, and forgive yourself your unhealthy trespasses. Learn what you can from them, and then move on.” – RevolutionaryAct.com

“Excess on occasion is exhilarating. It prevents moderation from acquiring the deadening effect of a habit.” – W. Somerset Maugham (via my friend Mark Schneider)

“Drug companies just want compliance. They want people to take their pills and they really don’t seem to care if they produce beneficial results.” – Dr. Carolyn Dean

“’Kids’ food’ is a marketing concept created by multinational food conglomerates to sell processed crap. There’s no reason kids should eat differently than adults.” – Chris Kresser

“If you thought neurons were specific to your brain, think again. As it turns out, there are 100 million neurons in the gut wall that connect 100 trillion of the guts’ microbes to the human brain. These bugs literally make the ‘brain chemicals’ (they are actually manufactured in the gut, making ‘brain chemicals’ somewhat of a misnomer) that determine how we think and feel on a daily basis. Stress has been shown to destroy the good immune building, mood boosting microbes in the gut, not to mention take out our ability to feel good after a meal or digest well.” – Dr. John Douillard

“I firmly believe that it’s the fear of cancer that’s driving so much of it our way. Cancer has become much more common since I went to medical school in the mid 70s, so I know it can’t be genetic.” – Dr. Carolyn Dean

9 Things I Wish I Knew Before Cloth Diapering

“What is the proper dosage of liquid herbal extracts for children?
Unless otherwise noted, all doses are for adults, but Clark’s Rule can be used to convert the adult dose to a child’s dose. Some extracts are not suitable for children. Consult your doctor for advice.

Clark’s Rule: Divide the child’s weight (in pounds) by 150 to get the fraction of the adult dose to give to the child.
Example: For a 50 pound child give 50/150 (or 1/3) of the adult dose. Therefore, if the adult dose is 30 drops taken 3 times per day, the child’s dose will be 10 drops taken 3 times per day (not 30 drops taken 1 time per day). Some extracts are not suitable for children. Consult your doctor for advice.” – Herb Pharm website
